Lisa Deeb member of the month (October 2025)

How did you discover CrossFit?

A friend introduced me back in 2017 where I attended another gym for a couple years. I quit when I moved to Loveland then when I came back to Fort Collins, I ran into coach Steph and she told me about DeNovo and totally sold it. I was recovering from back issues so it took me about a year after talking to Steph to make it in.

What draws you to DeNovo CrossFit?

Prior to DeNovo I spent about a year in yoga for back therapy and when I started at DeNovo, I noticed vast improvement, not to mention my doc wanted to put me on cholesterol meds but 6 months brought my numbers down.

What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment in life?

Getting through COVID as a nurse. Half our staff quit. In morning huddle I would thank everyone for showing up and doing their best because if we don’t show up, who’s going to take care of these people?

What or who EMPOWERS you at DeNovo?

Jenny tells me when I’m crying that I can do hard things. Sometimes life if really hard. Showing up to a community of people who are all there to support each other definitely empowers me. My DeNovo family challenges me and encourages me and makes me want to be better.

What is your favorite way to use your fitness outside of the gym?

Keeping up with my 5 year old grandson. I also love to hike so the more fit I am, the more I enjoy it.

What is your pet peeve?

Whining.

Favorite workout song.

Not sure- I’ve been loving the old school 80’s rock.

Favorite CrossFit movement or type of workout?

love variety as long as it doesn’t include running or burpees. I also recently decided thrusters are not a favorite. I like buddy workouts.

What advice would you have for anyone who is nervous to join DeNovo?

Come and try it out. You’ll find the best group of coaches and members: encouraging, nonjudgemental, accepting- they will meet you where you are. They will look out for you and your safety. What more could you ask for?

What do you do professionally?

I am a charge nurse on the trauma/surgical unit at MCR.

If we were sitting here one year from now, what would we be celebrating together?

I have good pain, not bad. My longevity is managed through community and a variety of exercises that keep my body strong and mobile.

What are you currently reading?

I recently finished “The Anxious Generation” and sped my way through a book I didn’t care for but needed to know who dunit called “The Truth About Her”.

What are you thankful for?

I am thankful, with regular maintenance, I don’t have the back pain I experienced prior to crossfit which my neurosurgeon referred to as “the low back of a 90 year old”.  I’m also thankful for my grandson Ryker who reminds me that it’s fun to be a kid.
