How did you discover CrossFit?

I actually googled the closest gym to me when I first moved to FoCo. Then went based on ratings and Google review comments.

What draws you to DeNovo CrossFit?

Coaches, community, the ability to better myself without feeling embarrassed if I don’t know the movement OR have to modify every single part of the WOD.

What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment in CrossFit and in life?

Competing twice in my first year of starting CrossFit and feeling completely supported in those comps by the coaches and other members.

Life: this one is tough to answer as I just finished up one of the most difficult years of my adult life. I guess I’d say making it through this past year with my head held high, and my dignity intact.

What athlete/s at DeNovo inspire you to be the best version of yourself each and every day?

Stephanie B! Betsy, Michelle, Jess, Coach Jorine and Coach Jenny. I watched Jess and Stephanie in barbell last year and was mega impressed. I’d only ever seen women do barbell movements etc. via instagram never in person. So I was instantly impressed!! Betsy and Michelle show up every day at 5am and motivate me to keep on showing up! Jorine and Jenny have been the two coaches I’ve worked most with this past year and have felt their support in more ways than I ever thought would be possible. It’s the little things that have made a huge impact on me.

What is your pet peeve?

At the gym: talking when coach is trying to talk haha

Elsewhere: slow walkers and drivers who use the wrong side of the road to go slow.

What/who inspires you?

At the gym: anyone who tries their best and supports the other athletes around them during workouts.

Elsewhere: Really truly my entire family. But mostly my 11.5 year old Liam! He inspires me to show up on days I don’t want to and do the hard things that need to be done. Seeing him be proud of me for working hard makes me: 😭🥹

Favorite workout song?

Not my favorite per se but definitely one that gives me all the feels: Bones by Imagine Dragons. There was a rowing workout we did one I was only a few months in, I was the last person rowing and I was dying. This song came on and gave me such a push that I finished the workout so quickly and felt that runners high when I was done!

What advice would you have for anyone who is nervous to join DeNovo?

Keep showing up- you’ll be sore but the best way to work through that is to come back! And don’t be afraid to modify! Your future self will thank your past self for preserving your body and learning the movements vs. going heavy for ego purposes and hurting yourself. I promise you’ll get to go heavy and it will feel even better when you do!!

What do you enjoy doing outside of CrossFit, both for fun and professionally?

For fun: I really enjoy traveling and try to go on as many trips as possible each year.

Professionally: I enjoy helping to plan for others whether it be for a quick weekend trip out of town or a full on wedding. I love it all!! It’s my one thing I can do for hours and hours and not get bored.

If we were sitting here one year from now, what would we be celebrating together?

Funny you should ask… I’m currently celebrating my 1 year at DeNovo and almost every week for the past six weeks I’ve done some workout or movement either for the first time successfully or went the heaviest that I’ve gone so far. So one year from now I’m thinking it’s going to be the same!!! Hoping to be able to do a few more movements that I haven’t quite figured out yet by this time next year!

Favorite CrossFit movement?

Deadlifts and back squats. Both movements I never thought I’d be able to do successfully… and here I am to say after a year of modifying when needed and taking my time to safely learn both movements I’m at weights I never thought possible.

What are you thankful for?

My health, my family and that I found DeNovo last year. My life has drastically changed for the better. And when life got hard this year my family and DeNovo were always present in my life ❤️
